Code of Tennis

#10 - Any call of "out", "let", or "fault" must be made instantaneously; otherwise, the ball is presumed good and still in play. In this connotation "instantaneously" means that the call is made before either an opponent has hit the return or the return has gone out of play. Most important: a ball is not out until it is called out.

COMBO TEAM TENNIS TEAMS CAN FORM NOW!!!!

Combo teams may get registered at TennisLink from Aug 1 to September 12.  You may register a team into the computer even if you are not going to be the captain of that team.  The ATA needs to know the number of teams in each division by Sept 12, so please adhere to the sign up deadline.

We would like to play a regular league season if we get enough teams participating.  4 to 6 teams in each division is an adequate number for league play.

Play may begin on September 20 with all matches completed by October 23.

Deadline for the State Tournament in Little Rock is October 24 and no late entries will be accepted.

State Combo Tournament is November 4-7 at Burns Park in Little Rock and is formatted exactly like the regular Adult State Tournament and is LOTS of fun.

Combo Sectionals is in January.

HOW DO YOU PLAY COMBO?

Combo is simply a league composed of doubles teams with a “combination” of levels.  You partner up with a player who has a different level than your own. EXAMPLE:  a 3.0 player and a 3.5 player  will make up a 6.5 team.  A 2.5 player and a 3.0 player will make up a 5.5 team and so on.  You may play on any level of team as long as your combined levels do not exceed the division you are playing in.   Three doubles teams are all that is needed to complete your team.

We are looking for 6 teams in the following divisions for men and women

5.5
6.5
7.5
8.5
9.5

Please e-mail me if you will consider playing on a team or putting your own team together.   Naturally there is a big advantage when taking on the captain role, as you will have control of who is on your team and when your team plays your matches.  I need the rest of the month to get an idea of our numbers to make decisions on the league format.  Last year we had such a small turn out we played the entire season in a weekend tournament.

I do have a few names of those who are interested in being placed on a team through a blind draw process but will need plenty of participants in several levels in order to successfully form teams.

We have had outstanding representation from this area on the State and Sectional levels this year and would like to see Fort Smith represented on the State and Sectional levels in the Combo format as well.

Southern Combo Doubles

Is the newest and fastest growing of our programs.  It is more relaxed than USA League Tennis.  This league provides men and women with the opportunity to play with friends at any NTRP level, as long as they do not exceed the combined level for their team.  For example, a 2.5 player and a 4.0 player can play together on a 6.5 team, just as a 3.0 player and a 3.5 player can.  Even level combinations play UP to the next odd level.

Barbara Daniel is the new WATA Combo coordinator if you would like to have more information or join a team please e-mail Barbara at BADaniel88@cox.net
